Lions Roar past the Cougars

Leigh Ramblers were a Division above us, so we expected a difficult game.

We started with three at the back and three in midfield to try and stifle the opposition in the opening half. We seemed to be under pressure, however we made a number of breaks in the opening half and could have scored. Ryan kept us in the game in the first half with some excellent saves. Danny seemed to be getting in the way of everything and made some great headed clearances. James and Kieran, who was Captain for the day, gave Danny ample help. Kieran made one excellent forward run that nearly created a goal. Louis, Charlie R and Lloyd helped the defence greatly in the first half and seemed to cover every blade of grass. Lloyd made a couple of surging runs and could well have had a hat-trick by half time if luck had been on his side.

At half time the score being equal gave us the opportunity to change back to a 1-2-3-1 formation and the whole midfield who played excellent in the first half were rested for Shaun and Tom to come on in midfield with Charlie P being our striker up front. Kieran also pushed up into Midfield and we started to attack a little more with the change in formation. Our efforts were rewarded when Charlie P had a great shot which produced our goal to make it 1-0!

As the game wore on both teams had opportunities to snatch goals, notably Charlie's shot which came off the cross bar and Tom's good shot which the keeper saved.

We held on for our Win which was richly deserved.

It was a great game to watch from the sidelines and all the boys thoroughly deserved the win.

The performance was outstanding and lets hope you all carry on with that great desire and determination. In the next round on Sunday 12th November we play Trinity Youth Pumas, who we drew 1-1 with earlier in the season.

Well done to everyone it was a great team effort.
