Forest Squeezed out by single goal

We had only played a couple of games since the turn of the year. Both teams looked a little heavy legged to start with until each team found some rhythm.

Lloyd being Captain for the day won the toss and chose to kick up the slope and into the wind in the first half. We defended well and broke away on a number of occasions. Charlie R was in goal and made a couple of saves from distance, but otherwise there did not appear to be much to concern us. Louis played well as the lone striker and was supported by Shaun, Charlie P and Lloyd in the first half. Jack and Kieran held things together at the back.

At half time, Ryan came on in goal for Charlie R, Shaun switched to defence for Kieran, Tom and Joe came into the game in midfield and Charlie moved up front to replace Louis. Down the slope we started to take control of the game and created a number of opportunities. Charlie P had a great shot from the edge of the box which only just went high and wide after a good corner. Joe had a header which went just wide again from a corner. The keeper and a defender luckily scrambled away another shot which could easily gone in.

I can't remember Ashingdon getting into our half on too many occasions during the second half. The goal came after a weak goal kick went straight to the opposing forward who shot from way out and the ball flew over Ryan and into the top of the net.

Although it was disappointing for all of us, we were extremely unlucky not to at least get a draw and I think we deserved a win today. We need to remember that each and every player put in bags of effort and energy, we created chances and nearly scored a few times. So we did really well.

Charlie P thoroughly deserved his Man of the Match award as as always he covered every blade of grass and in my book was the best player on the pitch on the day.

Lets keep working hard and things willl continue to improve.
