Fairfax have the edge on the Lions

On Saturday the boys gave an excellent performance in a friendly against Billericay Town Colts. It was a strong and committed performance against difficult opposition who are a couple of divisions above us. It showed that when working together as a team that anything is possible. The only goal of the game came with two minutes to go. Charlie P then narrowly missed the goal with a good long shot with what was to be the last kick of the game.

By Sunday, we had lost a couple of players to sickness and injury leaving us in the unusual situation of only having eight players. Again, we looked very strong at the back, retaining lots of good possession, breaking forward but just lacking the vital support and penetration to get the goal we richly deserved.

As the game moved into the second half, fairfax seemed to build in confidence and gradually started to exert some pressure on us. It seemed that with reduced numbers and following our exertions from Saturday, having two games in as many days seemed to be taking its toll. This led to a forward being left unmarked in the box and he drove a fierce shot to the bottom left of Ryan to give fairfax the lead.

Although we started to push forward, a couple of decisions did not go our way, notably a Penalty claim when Charlie P appeared to be through in a one on one situation.

The luck just was not with us but I am sure we will come good soon. Each and everyone of the boys keeps smiling, gives bags of effort and wants to do well.

Keep your heads up and the results will start to go our way.
