Off to a Great Start

The first match of the season has been eagerly awaited with an indifferent performance against Island Boys last year, the result was uncertain.

An attacking formation was adopted with three at the back. For the first eighteen minutes the match was deadlocked but Forest had most of the play with Island making some effective breaks. Gradually Forest became too strong for the visitor, especially down the left, several runs by Billy created chance after chance and in the nineteenth minute, such an attack had Billy’s cross cleared through the centre of the box but finding Mathew unmarked, a weighted shot looped straight over the keeper's head to open the Forest account.

From then on the play was one way with Tom, Alex, Billy and Harry all having opportunities, the second came when another attack had the keeper diving to his right but losing the ball, Alex, following up instinctively picked up the ball for an easy tap in from barely a yard out. The half was finished by an individual effort from Harry, collecting the ball from the half way line he strode past two midfielders and shot from just inside the box that had the keeper stranded.

The second half started with equal enthusiasm, Billy was rewarded at the end of another attack, and linking play with Tom he executed the final touch perfectly with a shot straight into the roof of the net from about ten yards out on the left.

The match was put out of Island's reach by Harry’s interception and clinical finish. With all the subs brought on, every player had the chance to make a valued contribution to this match.
