Walking Wounded Battle Through

The walking wounded of Forest Glade battled to a memorable victory on Sunday finishing the game with only 9 players fit. The day started badly when the squad was decimated with absence, illness and injury which only left 11 players able to start. Within 10 minutes Jonathan Diment started to feel a knock he was carrying but bravely stayed on as there were no subs.

Having said that Forest took the lead on 20 mins through James Apple Adams with a neatly taken finish after good work by Lee Mulreany.

Rochford equalised with a dubious goal and started to pressurise Glade before the break but the defence held firm with Peter Wild his usual imperious self ably assisted by stand in centre half Thomas Sabberton. Keeper Marcus Parsons had to pull off a wonder save before half time, somhow pushing the ball up and over the bar when it looked like a goal was certain.

After the break Forest started to produce some good football, their undoubted quality starting to show.

The second goal came half way through the period when the hard working Lee Mulreany latched onto a loose ball and did what he does best , smashing the ball into the back of the net with a super left foot shot.

Then came the next injury, Jimmy Jones who had worked his socks off all game got cramp in both legs and had to go off for treatment, but as with Diment bravely came back on and finished the last 10 minutes although restricted in his movement. Although Jones did not come up with a traddmark thunderbolt goal, this display was one of his best as he covered every inch of grass in midfield for the team.

With minutes to go Forest again came close when Steven Bourner went through on goal only to shoot inches wide. Finally the whiste blew and Forest won the points, my word did they have to battle for them!!!
