Very Classy Comeback. |
|
|
For the first 20 min. of the game both sides were evenly
matched. Forest had kept their shape well, but the ball was
spending too much time in the air. The deadlock was broken by
Baddow when Tom Barley was caught in possession inside his own
half. With the Forest defence caught out of position Elliott
Thwaites, in goal, had little chance with the well placed shot.
Minutes later Baddow were awared a free-kick at the edge of the
area which was well saved by Elliott tipping the ball over the
bar. However the second Baddow goal came yet again from a
defensive lapse in concentration from Forest. An unmarked Baddow
midfielder had plenty of time to make a pass through the Forest
defence and the Baddow striker slotted home from close range. To
their credit the Forest players realised that they were not
beaten and the final 10 minutes of the half saw Forest take
control of the game. |

The 2nd half started with a bang. With most of the supporters
still in the Club House drying out and trying to warm-up, Tom
Barley picked the ball up in midfield and passed to Asa Dengel.
Asa’s shot from 20 yards out roared into the top right corner of
the goal. The goal lifted the Forest players’ spirits further.
The equaliser came quickly after with Tom Barley yet again
making the pass from midfield, this time to Grant Cumming. The
Baddow keeper rushed out to intercept the pass but Grant somehow
managed to win the tackle and with the keeper beaten was able to
slot home into an empty net. Forest’s play was now reaping the
rewards as they played some great passing football. With Tom
Pearson now at left back and Conor Bartrip on the right wing the
team had a great balance to its play. Another sweeping move saw
Asa grab his second of the game and give Forest the lead with
another stunning finish. |

It wasn’t all Forest however and Elliott was called into action
again when Baddow played a ball over the top of the Forest
defence. With the Baddow striker bearing down on his goal,
Elliott stood tall and big and when the shot came, he deflected
it wide for a corner. |

The killer goal came after it appeared that another good passing
move had broken down. Alan Pratt mad a good tackle and quickly
passed to Grant. Grant returned the ball to Alan who shot low
into the right-hand corner for a well deserved first goal. |

This was the team’s best performance this season with all the
players contributing. Man-of-the-match went to Paul O’Brien who
was solid at the back winning the ball continually in the air.
