A Lesson Learnt |
|
|
After a promising
pre-season the new look U16's started their league campaign with
a very disappointing defeat. |
|
|
It all started
so positively as Forest dominated the opening of the game. The
Forest midfield caused the Colts defence havoc with some
excellent through balls to the Forest wide players. Both Grant
Cumming and Asa Dengel were quick to seize the opportunities to
have one-on-one's with the keeper but failed to take the
chances. Omar Salih was particularly prominent in the opening 20
minutes with his passing to Asa. |
|
|
However the
chances weren't taken and Blackshots began to grow in confidence
and to take a foothold in the game. Forest became frustrated and
began to lose their shape as Blackshot fought and battled hard
to win the ball in the middle of the pitch. This cut the
supply to the Forest strikers and gave the Forest defence more
to cope with. The Forest midfield were caught out of position
when Blackstock broke down their right wing. The shot was well
saved by the Forest keeper Elliott Thwaites but his parry across
the goal was chased down well by the Blackstock no.4 who had an
easy tap in from 10 yds. It only got worse for Forest as moments
later Tom Pearson was caught in possession a minute later 10yds
outside his own goal area. A sharp pass into the
Blackstock strikers pass saw him through on Elliott and he
slotted home well. |
|
|
A sharp talking
to at half-time had an immediate affect as Forest started the
half well. Just 2 minutes into the half, Tom Barley set Asa
Dengel through, this time from the left wing. Now Asa took his
chance well and beat the oncoming keeper to bring Forest back
into the game. |
|
|
Blackshots, however,
restored their 2 goal advantage just minutes later when again
the Forest defence was outnumbered and the Blackshot centre
forward got his 2nd, bundling the ball over the line from close
in. |
|
|
Forest, then for a while looked
likely to get back into the game as they continued to pass the
ball wide to the wingers who had the full-backs beaten for pace.
But the chances just couldn't be taken. Jack Hawthorn was given
a number of chances but the sharpness just wasn't there in front
of goal. Frustration took hold of the Forest players and
they lost their shape, again giving the advantage to Blackshots.
The midfield were constantly out of position making it difficult
for the Forest defenders to find them with passes and leaving
them open to the counter-attack. With 10 minutes to go, Forest
changed tactics and went into a 3-4-3 formation. This had little
effect and with just 3 minutes to go, Blackshot countered
quickly and scored their 4th. |

Whilst the scoreline probably does
not fairly reflect the balance of play, Forest hopefully will
have learnt a valuable lesson in that they have to battle and
keep their concentration if they wish to win in this league.
They should also keep their belief in a system of play that will
certainly create chances and bring the results they want.
