Barnards Belter!

Similar to last week, players were dropping out causing havoc with team plans. The conditions again  were treacherous, with a strong crosswind and the pitch bumpy and heavy. We knew it was going to be a difficult game and our passing game would be affected. Todays game would be a battle of wills. Thorpe Bay have a strong home record and have beaten Fairfax & Supreme on home turf.

Kieran and Louis returned after sickness and it was good to see them back.

Oliver had to be at his best and was called upon on a number of occasions to make good saves.

We seemed to be tired and leggy and did not seem to be playing with our normal pace and energy. The game was very evenly fought, however we had three good chances in the first half and the Bay keeper produced a good save each time.

We had more possesion in the second half and crafted some good openings, but could not find that composure in front of goal that was needed.

Then with 10 minutes remaining one moment of pure magic, changed the game. Wayne was positioned out on the wing about half way in the Bay half, the ball as I recall either bounced up and was headed or chested down and on the half volley Wayne let fly with a shot which flew over the despairing keeper and into the net 1-0! What a superb goal it was. It was worthy of winning any game and was pure class.

It was hard on Thorpe Bay as they maybe deserved better as the game was very evenly balanced.

They pressed forward to get back in the game and in the last minute they had a glorious chance to square things up but the shot went just wide after good defending by Jack, Oliver and Tom.

It was very pleasing to grind out a win and another 3 points. Wayne fully deserved his Man of the Match award in a very hard fought Victory.

The Win keeps us on the top of the league! Well done to all the players.
