Blues Blitz the Ramblers

We went into the game knowing a win could take us one step closer to winning the league title, having had a promotion place confirmed last week. We had three players missing due to other commitments and had to shake up the team, with a few players in unfamiliar positions.

Wow what a day. The boys really seemed to be up for the game and challenged and won most balls and you sensed it was only a matter of time before we scored. We kept creating chances and some of the passing and play was perfect. After about 20 minutes Joe drifted into the area and received a pass from which he shot with his weaker left foot, to put us 1-0 ahead! What a goal, it was also pleasing that Joe was playing up front for the first time and put in a terrific performance scoring his first club goal.

The possession we had was incredible, Robert being in goal was by and large a spectator. The defence was rarely troubled such was the play of the midfielders and forwards. Shaun made surging runs forward from defence to help the attackers.

It was still 1-0 at half time and the second half started no differently to how the first finished. It was not until about 20 minutes into the second half that our pressure told and Wayne drove through the middle on one of his great surging runs to again slip the ball under the keeper to make it 2-0. Another great individual goal. Then Max decided to get on the score sheet, he came in from the right wing and took a shot which drifted over the top of the keeper and into the far corner of the net to make it 3-0 and make the game safe. Still not finished, Wayne knocked a ball over the top of the defenders which Max ran onto outrunning all of the defenders and he produced a super lob over the oncoming keeper to make it 4-0.

It has to rate up there as one of our finest performances of the season, especially with players playing in different positions. The boys have a great deal of belief and ability and produced performances of which all the parents must be proud.

If you could select every player for Man of the Match, then today was that day.

There really were 13 heroes out on that pitch today and they fully deserved the victory.
