In terrible wet
conditions and a driving wind we knew we were in for a tough
game. We were a couple of players short due to sickness and
holidays and Trinity were second to us in the table. We were the
only team left in the league with an unbeaten record.
We were well aware of
what to expect from Trinity as we had played against them four
times last season, drawing three games and losing by the odd
goal in our last game against them.
The team formation
was different to what we normally expect due to missing players
so a few of the boys had to play in positions which they were
not familiar with. This could have had a negative effect on the
team, however the boys all seemed to grow in stature as the game
went on and appeared comfortable where they played.
We were on the back
foot to begin with and coped admirably with whatever Trinity
threw at us, however we could only break away on a few occasions
during the first half against the wind and rain.
As the game
progressed we got more into game but neither side could muster a
clear cut opportunity.
At half time it was
0-0 and the game continued this way until 6 minutes to go when
after a quickly taken corner the defence did not clear the ball
when they had chances and the ball was rifled from the six yard
line into the top corner of the net to make the score 1-0 to
Trinity.
We pressed at the end
but again could not get in a clear cut chance.
All the boys played
tremendously well against a team which will be pushing for
promotion at the end of the season and performed really well in
difficult conditions. Great performances all round, shame about
the score line.
