14:00 1st February Competition: League Away
Forest Glade 6 Hamlet Court B 1

Forest hit Six!

It was a really cold day with a blistery wind. Everyone there will know exactly what I mean. We started by playing with the wind behind us and thought we would need to use this to our advantage in the first half.

After 5 minutes Max took a short corner to Charlie who on the second attempt beat his player and got in a great cross, which bypassed all the players in the box other than George who rose up and with a towering header sent the ball into the top of the net, it was a great way to start. Hamlet were competing for everything and the game was very evenly placed. Their reward came just before half time when we failed to clear a throw in and the resulting ball found its way across the box for the forward to tuck the ball into the corner. 1-1 at half time.

We knew the second half would be harder as the conditions were no longer in our favour and the boys who rarely fail to disappoint turned in a super second half performance.

Just after the restart, after good work through the midfield the ball found its way to Matt who being unmarked at the back post, swept the ball into the corner giving us the lead. 2-1. Tom then made a clearance up the line from which Daniel received the ball and ran in on goal to beat the keeper and make it 3-1. Shaun then made a great run from the half way line and beat the keeper with a low shot to make it 4-1.

The conditions worsened and at one point the referee was going to call a halt to proceedings as a 2 minute blizzard hit the pitch, giving some poor visibility. Within a few minutes the small amount of snow which settled had gone to be replaced by a sunny blue sky!

After another mazy run Shaun went through again and under pressure the defender passed the ball into his own net to make it 5-1. Matt then received the ball with his back to goal, he shimmed one way turned to the other foot and shot low into the bottom corner to make it 6-1.

Wayne was looking back to his best and created a couple of great individual runs into the box and was unlucky not to get himself onto the score sheet.

The team battled hard especially in the second half and fully deserved the result after a great second half performance. The result puts us on top of the league by goal difference for the first time this season, however we have played a game more than Trinity.
