Forest Glade 3 Runwell Hospital YFC 0

Forest Weather the Storm.

Runwell kicked off the game in the wind and rain. Almost immediately, Wayne broke up the play, put a perfectly weighted ball over the top of the Runwell midfield and defence, to which Shaun reacted first. Shaun let the ball bounce twice and then volleyed with his left foot. The ball went passed the goalkeeper into the bottom left hand corner. Forest Glade were ahead after just 19 seconds!

We could have been forgiven for thinking this might be a comfortable win. However, Runwell were well organised in defence and with the weather conditions making things difficult, Forest Glade had to perform well, and dominated the first half, with some good individual play and some lovely passing. But it took an excellent strike to get the second goal. The ball broke loose after a corner and George hit a volley, blasting the ball up high to the right passed the goalkeeper hitting the roof of the net just under the crossbar. It was 2-0 and a well deserved lead going into the half time break.

The second half found Runwell using the wind to their advantage. They played many long balls from various positions and these were dealt with very well by the Forest Glade defence, especially Jack who looked comfortable in the middle as the sole centre back. We still appeared to dominate the game although the away team battled to the end. Max was making more and more runs down the right creating chances and with about five minutes to go, passed the ball through to AJ, who beat a defender and unselfishly crossed the ball into the penalty box. AJ’s cross was perfectly weighted for Charlie who took the ball on the half volley passed the goalkeeper’s desperate lunge and the ball went just inside the post in the side netting. The score was now 3-0 and that’s how the game ended.
