George Warr, the 5 Star performer in Forest Win |
|

During the previous week there had been
plenty of snow and rain. It was surprising that the pitch was in
such good condition. The sun was shining, the wind had dropped
and it was ideal for a game of football.

Phoenix had to start with 10 players whilst
one player was en-route. Forest Glade were soon on the attack.
Robbie dribbled down the right hand side of the penalty box and
put in a good cross. The ball evaded everyone in the centre of
the penalty box. Max was on hand at the back post to slot the
ball home. Forest Glade were soon attacking again. This time,
Shaun made a strong fast run down the left hand side and crossed
for AJ to make it 2. Within minutes Forest Glade were pressing
again and again but missed several good chances to extend their
lead. After about 15 minutes, Forest Glade attacked again. Shaun
crossed to Max who made it 3 and his 2nd. Another Forest Glade
attack involved a number of players. There was a bit of a scrap
in the penalty box before AJ stuck the ball in to make it 4.

The away team appeared to take control
playing with lots of confidence. Shaun picked up the ball on the
edge of the penalty box and shot. The ball looped over the
defenders and then bounced into the left hand corner past the
goalkeeper. Some desperate defending and a couple of good saves
from the goalkeeper couldn’t stop Forest Glade scoring their 6th
as Charlie struck the ball home. George added a 7th and after a
goal-mouth scramble, George also scored the 8th. Shaun scored
again to make it 0-9, with a couple of minutes to half time.
Unfortunately there was a heated exchange of words between a
player from each team. This was dealt with swiftly by the
referee and there was no repeat. The referee blew the whistle
for half time just as Robbie shot for goal. The ball went in but
the goal did not count.

Phoenix now had 11 players to start the 2nd
half and it started with Phoenix offering greater resistance to
Forest Glade attacks. AJ did score his 3rd and Charlie had a
great chance to score his 2nd but somehow missed from close
range. Several other good chances were saved by the goalkeeper
or cleared, before George received a pass from Shaun, and scored
his 3rd. George then scored his 4th to make the score 0-12. AJ
went in goal for the last 10 minutes. Shaun collected the ball
soon after and tried to dribble through the middle of the
defence. A Phoenix player made a late despairing tackle and
brought Shaun down just outside the penalty box. The usual free
kick takers offered Shaun the chance to take it. Shaun (not
known for his free kicks), hit the ball over the wall. The
goalkeeper got 2 hands to the shot but could not keep it out.
The score was now 0-13 with about 8 minutes to go.

After a bit of scrappy play, the ball broke
to Olly, whose shot was blocked by a defender. Almost straight
after this, George unselfishly laid the ball off to Olly but a
defender just beat Olly to the ball before he could shoot.

Soon after, George appeared to have several
chances to shoot, but decided to keep pushing the ball further
to the left side of the penalty box, to evade defenders. George
successfully avoided at least 3 defenders before striking the
ball cleanly with his left foot into the right hand corner,
scoring again and a team record of 5 goals in 1 game. With only
minutes to go, Shaun scored his 4th and Charlie scored another
with his left foot, before the referee blew the final whistle.
