Forest Glade 5 Hawkwell Athletic C 2

Forest out fox the Hawkwell

We went into todays game with great confidence after last weeks record win, training went exceptionally well with all the boys working really hard yesterday. On the downside, we only approached the game with 11 available players. This was good in one way that everyone would today get a full game.

WOW, what a game. We were playing a team from the division above in the cup and the biggest compliment that could have been paid to our boys was by their manager who thought that we were from Division A!

We absolutely dominated them in spells, winning a great deal of first time balls, when we did not, we won the second time balls. The boys played with a great deal of belief and spirit and worked as a unit to great effect. I am sure everyone who witnessed today would agree when I say some of the play was breathtaking!

The first goal was stabbed in by AJ, Hawkwell replied quickly with a great angled shot which gave Oli no chance. Robie got our second before half-time when good work down the right saw Robie receive the ball and from a tight angle he beat the goalie at the near post and the ball nestled into the other corner. 2-1 at half-time. Straight after the restart some nervous defending allowed Hawkwell to capitalise and square the game at 2-2. This could have knocked us out of our stride, but we responded positively and kept pressing on the Hawkwell goal. Some clever play between Luke and Max gave AJ the chance to give us the lead again. Wayne then got in on the act after turning his player to create space for a super strike to give the keeper no chance. George then rounded off the game with a great strike to make the final score 5-2.

All the boys played really well and looked comfortable playing a team from a higher level.

It was pleasing to see Luke fit in at right back and good to see him get forward and join the attacks whenever he could. Everyone seemed to stand out today and although Charlie was named Man of the Match, each player should be pleased with today's performance.

Well done to all the players, congratulations on a great result!

The next round of the League Cup awaits!
