Forest edged out in Trinity Thriller |
It was another early kick off, it was misty however mild and it
warmed up quickly, as the whistle approached the sun had shone
through. Trinity C were playing 2 divisions above our team last
year, so this was always going to be a tough game.
The game started fairly evenly with both teams getting good
possession in the middle of the park. Both teams created good
openings with some good passing. Forest Glade created the first
4 half chances, the first 3 fell to Daniel who burst through
each time. |
On the third breakthrough, Daniel got a shot in albeit being
challenged from behind at the same time. There were shouts for
Penalty however the ref waved play on. Shaun created the 4th
chance himself but just as he was about to shoot, a defender
deliberately tripped him, with no attempt to play the ball. This
made for an uneasy start, but the game settled down with less
fouls after that and Trinity got into the game. |

Against the run of play Trinity picked
up the ball and were just outside the penalty box when a striker
shot towards the Forest Glade goal. The shot took a slight
deflection sending the ball just above Oliver’s reach but under
the crossbar. It was 0-1 to Trinity. |
Forest Glade kept battling but Trinity
seemed to gain in confidence and the rest of the first half was
closer, with not much to choose between the 2 teams. Half time
score 0-1. |
No sooner had the 2nd half started when
Trinity took a corner and a player from Trinity attacked the
ball at the same time as Jack. As they clashed the ball
deflected passed Oliver in to the goal. 0-2. The Forest Glade
players looked a little shocked, just for a few seconds. They
picked themselves up and kept pushing forward. |
Forest Glade were winning more possession and pushed forward
without creating any clear chances. Shaun tried a left foot shot
from outside the box which bounced in front of the goalkeeper
and then hit the crossbar twice with Daniel following up.
Unfortunately the goalkeeper claimed the ball first. |
Max was pushing down the right wing more and more and George was
finding opportunities down the left wing. On one of these runs,
George put a perfectly angled cross through the away team’s
defence, which the goalkeeper could not reach. Max was well
placed to slot the ball pass the goalkeeper. The score was now
1-2, with 12 minutes to go ! |
Forest Glade gained greater impetus and created further attacks
without any real clear chances against a well organised defence.
Shaun decided to go on one of his runs from deep in our own half
and was on the edge of the box when he shot with his right foot,
but the shot was saved by the goalkeeper. |
There were also a couple of other chances where the ball did not
fall right as it may have done on another day. The final score
Forest Glade A 1 Trinity C 2. |
