Forest Glade 4 Wickford Town C 0

Glade Hit the Town!

Joe came into the team at short notice with Jack being unwell. There were a couple of other players who had been unwell also during the previous week and we were unsure if this would have a detrimental effect on performances. We started with those who had been unwell, knowing that Robert and Charlie would be ready when called upon.

Although Wickford were just below midway in the table, recent results were slightly deceptive as they had been playing the top teams and only losing by the odd goal or so. We knew it would be a tough game. Wickford were strong and committed and giving them credit were unlucky on a couple of occasions. They had so far this season scored plenty of goals so we were expecting them to score. They had only failed to score in one previous game all season.

Only two minutes into the game Shaun collected the ball from inside our half and went on a fabulous mazy run beating what could be described as about the whole Wickford Team and then plant a low shot past the oncoming keeper to make it 1-0! Then within a few minutes I think Robie played a nice ball out to Max who beat his player down the line and got in a great cross which evaded everyone for George to rush onto and grab our second. After 20 minutes Wayne had a similar situation as Shaun running again virtually 3/4 of the pitch to notch a great 3rd goal. 3-0! to Forest at half time.

Daniel played in Central defence till half time and put in a superb performance, doing all the right things and keeping things simple. Oli was tested on a couple of occasions and always did what he needed to.

The second half was more equal and Oli was again called on and made one save in particular which was just recovered on the goal line to give him another clean sheet.

Towards the end Max got a great cross in again and after a little shimmy in the box Luke placed a sweet ball into the corner to make the final score 4-0!

It was another great team performance, with players fitting in positions they would not always play and good to see a gritty performance against a strong minded team who never gave up the cause. All the boys should be pleased with today’s efforts.
