  Match Report

13:00 28th September Competition: League Home
Forest Glade 8 Phoenix Boys YFC 1

Forest put out the Phoenix flames.

After last seasons fantastic exploits, we were looking forward to the start of a new season and the challenges of moving up to a new division and playing new teams.

We had a strong pre-season coming runners up in the Trinity tournament and winning all bar one friendly.

We started today's game the same way we finished last season, with a typically gritty and determined performance aiming to win every first time ball and putting pressure on Phoenix every step of the way.

We practiced free kicks on Saturday in training and within minutes Wayne took a superb free kick about 30 yards out which flew over the despairing keeper into the roof of the net, 1-0.

Minutes later Wayne again was involved on the left beating a couple of players by the bye line and making a pin point cross for Daniel to volley us 2-0 ahead.

Robie capitalised on a week goal kick and moved forward to slot the ball under the goalkeeper to give us a 3rd goal after 15 minutes. Robie again cracks in our fourth just before half time.

The second half starts much the same as the first with Shaun picking up the ball just in-side their half, he goes on a mazy run, leaving defenders in his trail and beats the keeper at his near post 5-0!

Phoenix grab a goal after our failure to clear the ball for a consolation and it gives them a pick me up for a few minutes until Daniel gets his second from close range. 6-1.

Robie smacks in a super strike from just inside the penalty area to make it 7-1.

Then after a great shot, Max weaves inside again from the right, beats a couple of defenders and curls a great shot into the far corner to make it 8-1! It was a deserving goal for our Man of the Match.

Although not all players are named there were some truly strong performances all over the pitch, everyone should be proud of their performance and the effort they put in as the TEAM got its rewards.

We picked up the 3 points we needed in a fantastic start to our league campaign, congratulations to all the boys. Well done.
