Forest Glade 3 Stones Athletic 1

Harder than it should be!

Another early start but a very bright and clear day ahead, on paper this should be an easy contest and from the start Forest started in the usual manor, after 3 minutes of solid midfield play, a through ball from the centre spot had Luke pick up the ball 25 yards out for a one on one with the keeper. It was only going to be one outcome and Forest had there first.

After this initial run, Stones dug in and played some very sound and at times impressive passing play, completely out playing the midfield. After the first 15 Josh came on to steady the midfield and we went with only one up front. Tom and Ryan fought to protect the back with John and Alex making some excellent clearances down the lines but Stones had some good wingers making Jake and Chris’s job much harder, especially with a narrower pitch.

After 21 minutes of sustained pressure, Forest broke free down the right, Luke picked up the ball at the corner post and fired in a cross, the ball looped in and under the bar that originally everyone had dismissed as a miss, until a Stones Parent confirmed it as a goal.

Half time had us playing down hill and 2 minutes in, Luke got his hat trick. We then made it hard work, Stones played some quality passing play and never gave up the fight, when we should have dominated the game Forest sat back and allowed Stones the ability to play a passing game. After 20 minutes they where rewarded by a free kick in striking distance and managed to curl one in from around 20 yards out. The end came after chances both ends as each team caught the other on counter attacks but the whistle did not come a minute to soon.
