Battling against the odds

Today's match saw a valiant effort in the first 30 minutes by a battling Forest Glade side. They had been drawn against a Premiership team in the League cup. The class of the opposition was evident straight from the kick off. The passing and movement of the Pier Sports side was far superior to that of Forest Glade. Having said this the boys dug in and defended excellently. The back four of Lewis Fisher, Charlie Simmons, John Burchett and Jamie Simons supported very well by Sam Lawrence who played as a sweeper, all played fantastically well during the first half. David Pratt also played very well during the first half pulling of three fine saves. With thirty minutes played and the score at 0-0 the boys were starting to put a few forages into the Pier half. There were thoughts of a giant killing act. Unfortunately a good move followed by an excellent shot which gave David no hope and Pier opened the scoring ON 32 minutes. Just on half time a piece of sloppy defending from a quick throw and Pier had doubled the lead. Pier had limited James Simpson and Lewis Farrier to one shot a piece during the first half.

The second half started well with a couple of forays forward and a couple of shots on target by both the front men and another by Jimi Bude. Richard Long came on for Jamie Simons and played well in a central defensive position with Burchett moving to left back, where he contnued to battle well. David Pratt pulled of a series of good saves throughout the second half. However he was helpless for the three second half goals that saw Forest eventually loose out 5-0. All over the park it was a spirited display.

Man of the match award went to David Pratt without whom it could have been easily double the goals conceded. Well done David
