Forest Glade 8 Grovewood Sports 1

First League win for Forest

Today saw Forest Glade with a depleted squad notch up there first win against an even more depleted Grovewood side. Grovewood started with 10 players and for the first 10 minutes put up a spirited display looking the stronger side. The passing and possession started to rattle some of the Forest side who maybe were taking it easy. There was some good defensive work by Richard Long and the rest of the defence made up of John Burchett, Charlie Simmons and Lewis Fisher.

The break through came from a neat passing move involving Jack Walker and James Simpson who slid a ball through to Lewis Farrier who finished well. Shortly after Farrier made it 2-0 again with another neat finish. It was then Simpson's turn to get in on the goal action with a deflected shot that beat the keeper for a fortunate goal. His second in a short period of time was a well struck shot that left the keeper absolutely no chance. Farrier wrapped up a well deserved first half hatrick just before half time. Forest went into the second half with a 5-0 lead.

Just into the second half and with Grovewood up to a full complement they pulled one back when Forest went to sleep and the midfield left the defence to cope with a 5 on 4 situation. The Grovewood stiker finished well. Jack Walker then took a knock in the ribs and a bit of a shuffle took place with Richard Long taking up a midfield position and Jamie Simons coming on. The goal seemed to stir Forest and normal service resumed with Simpson notching up his hatrick with a fine effort finishing in the top right hand corner. At 6-1 Arran Webster had a speculative shot which almost led to his first goal in 3 years of playing for Forest Glade, but the crossbar denied him his moment of glory.

A goal a piece for Farrier and Simpson finished the scoring at 8-1. It could have been so many more with Walker hitting the post and Simpson firing many shots wide of the mark. Performances worthy of note were Jimi Bude who played some lovely football on the left wing and combined well with both Burchett and Simpson. On the other side Chris Rowland had a good return from 2 weeks out following an ankle injury sustained at Vange United. Arran Webster played his first full game of the season and did well.
