Battling Performance Secures Win |
|
|
After a five
week break due to the Xmas/New Years holiday season and a frozen
pitch last week it was almost like starting the season again.
The boys were up against tough opposition, who before the break
had put together a string of good results and performances.

After winning the toss the Lions elected to
play up the slope and and against the wind. Early exchanges were
pretty even but as the game progressed Forest begin to have the
majority of the play with some good pressure on the Leigh goal.
A few half chances went begging, then midway through the half
Rahat Al-Rahim playing up front went on one of his typical solo
runs and fired hard and low to score a fine goal. The boys kept
the pressure up with Christopher Janes making some great runs up
the left. The pressure told again when after 15 mins a Leigh
player hand balled for a penalty. Luke Mackie was denied a goal
despite his fine strike as the goal keeper pulled off a great
save pushing the ball onto to the post.

Second half saw a more resilient performance
by Leigh and it took some brave tackling and battling by the
boys to keep the opposition at bay. The boys were still creating
chances and pressuring Leigh, but at times left the back
exposed. Samuel Bennett and Jake Pettigrew at the back battled
well and made some telling tackles to stop Leigh from getting
back in the match and Max Dennehy in goal was quick to clear up
any goal mouth scrabbles and produced some brilliant kicks out
of goal. Midway through the half a poor clearance from Leigh was
seized upon by Rahat who ran on goal and drove the ball home for
goal number two. Minutes later Christopher ran through and shot
only to be denied by a fine save from the keeper.

A good
battling performance, which was a bit ring rusty at times, but
the boys defended well and scored at the right times to run out
comfortable winners.
