Lions Undone Again

The boys approached the game knowing that our recent good performances had not been rewarded in terms of the final result and unfortunately our run of bad luck was to continue.

The game started well with the Lions again (as we have seen this season) having the majority of play. Early advantage was rewarded with a fine individual effort from Rahit, a twist and a turn and the shot was fired hard and low into the corner of the goal. Our tails were up and the boys started to play the ball around.

The second was a brilliantly created goal, the defence played the ball to Rahit who flew down the left beating two players, a low driven ball was sent into the box where it was received by Sam Hopgood with his back to goal, instead of turning into trouble and going for glory, not panicking he gentle rolled the ball back for Luke Mackie who had ghosted into the box and he gleefully rifled into the roof of the goal. Maybe it was going to be our day for a change.

The excitement of being 2 nil up did not last long as a long range shot from Leigh just before half time cut our lead, but I was still hopeful as Leigh had been reduced to just a few efforts in the first half.

Second half saw a much improved Leigh who weathered the early storm from the Lions with some brave defending and goal keeping. With ten minutes to go and the thought of the defeat furthest from our minds Leigh get a penalty decision hand ball, it was one of those decisions that could have gone either way 2-2 oh well a draw on the balance we could suffer. With minutes left Leigh catch us on the break a last gasp tackle sees us give another penalty away 3-2.

They say that the rub of the green evens its self out over the season, already we have scored three own goals, missed a penalty, and conceded two penalties, so hopefully we've got some good fortune to come.

I'm sure if the boys continue to create chances and put in the performances that they have done to date, their efforts will be rewarded.

Well done lads, and thanks to all the parents for your continued support.
