Another Step in the Right Direction |
|
|
The boys were matched against a Great Wakering team that were
unbeaten and had already inflicted a 6-0 defeat on us earlier in
the season.

They have been showing great improvements over the last month,
yet this would be the true benchmark and test on how far they
had come.

The early stages of the first half saw the the two sides
cancelling each other out, but as the half progressed Forest
began to take control of the game with Al- Rahim making some
threatening runs and efforts on goal. The pressure was
eventually rewarded when again Al-Rahim collected the ball after
a scramble just inside the oppositions half to go on a run,
dribbling past three players and then powerfully firing home for
the opening goal. Great wakering came back in the last five
minutes of the half, the defence who have been so solid recently
stood up to the pressure and when called on Max Dennehy in goal
averted any danger.

We knew in the second half that Great Wakering would come out
determined and the boys had to weather some early pressure, but
as the half went on the boys began to take control and cope
admirably with any breaks by the opposition. Midway through the
half Luke Mackie picked the ball up and slotted it through the
congested midfield to Al-Rahim. A one on one with the last
defender and then a calmly slotted shot under the advancing
keeper and the boys were two nil up.

The rest of the game was played out with both teams giving there
all, but on the day the boys always looked more threatening and
the defence was very solid. A great performance and well
deserved result.

Thanks to all the parents and well done boys.
