10:00 11th October Competition: League
Forest Glade 3 Stones Athletic 1

Forest avoid getting Stoned at the weekend

After 3 away League matches, it was nice to have a home match in the League.

After gaining a clean sheet the previous week, it was important for the lads to build on this and use home advantage to score some goals after going 160 minutes from the previous two games not being able to break down the opposition.

After an initial flurry of challenges within the first 5 minutes, we quickly gained our composure and started to get the ball down and pass and move, a key feature that the lads have been working on for the last few training sessions.

It was 14 minutes into the first half when we managed the breakthough. Playing up the slope and into the wind, Joe Bumpas got the ball at his feet and quickly sprinted with the ball towards the half way line before splitting their defence with a well weighted pass that James Kay latched onto and dribbled towards the goal before releasing an excellently finished shot from some 18 yards past the keeper.

Approximately 10 minutes later there was some good ball work between George and Jack on the right hand side before the ball was passed across to James Kay on the edge of the 18 yard box. He neatly linked up with a One, Two with Chris Lowe before slotting the ball left footed past the keeper from about 8 yards, another good goal, and James 2nd of the match.

5 minutes later and some more Forest Glade pressure resulted in a corner. The lads well marshalled into where to position themselves saw the ball crossed and after the ball coming out to George he drilled the ball past the keeper from 18/ 20 yards, another good finish, 3 great goals.

Stones tried to reduce the deficit in the 1st half but were thwarted by solid defending, but on the one occasion they did penetrate our defence, our GK, Jack Mole, somehow managed to dive at the strikers feet and claw the ball away with an outstretched hand, an excellent save.

We went into the break 3 Nil up and confidence high.

The 2nd half seemed to be nearly all our possession and some decent football being played at times especially down the right hand side, with neat triangles of passing.

Unfortunately we could not build on the scoring, and found ourselves conceding a goal to a break away some 15 minutes from the end.

A lot of positives to take from the game and contested in a good spirit by both teams. The encouragement the lads showed to each other was excellent and the goals were a joy to watch also. Well done lads!
