Grays Cosmos Pumas

With a win essential to keep up the title chase the Reds put in one of the performances of the season. A win for the opposition, Grays Cosmos Pumas, today, would see them win the title.

The game was end to end and both sets off parents were praising every tackle and every good ball the boys made. With a lucky shot from a Grays’ player Eric had made a good save but the ball was deflected into the path of another Grays’ player who coolly tapped it in making 1-0 Grays.

Half time came and there were a few tears from the Forest boys as they knew Grays were about to celebrate winning the league at Barleylands. Reece and Jordon knew they had to keep it very tight at the back and allow Tom, James and Brandon, who were trying there hardest, to play the ball up to Ryan.

Ten minutes into the second half Reece won the ball laying it off down the wing to Tom who passed to Ryan.  Ryan looked up to see James and he quickly crossed the ball for James to blast it into the back off the net for the equaliser.

By now the parents were shouting. The boys were shouting.  It was a very tense game and some parents just couldn’t watch.

Only minutes to go when it was all or nothing for Forest Glade and Tom was fouled just outside the penalty box to the right off the goal. The boys called for Ryan to take it and with that we all held our heads in our hands. This ball just had to go in. He placed the ball on the floor took two steps back and curled the ball, through the smallest gap between the post and the keeper into the top corner of the goal. The boys just ran and jumped on Ryan calling him Thierry Henry but Paul had shouted its not over yet. The next 2 minutes were the longest ever. Troy came on and Grays were taking some good long shots at Eric but there was no way Eric was letting any in now.

The final whistle went and some off the parents ran on the pitch to celebrate with the boys. Grays had brought there champagne with them thinking they were going to win but the Reds were having none off it. Two games to play and two wins needed to win the league.
