The
boys training on Saturday had a very exciting feeling about it with
tension building for the start of the season. |
|
Sundays match started with the team playing downhill. New boy Eric
was in goal and Brandon Reece was in defence. Jordon, James and Tom
were in midfield and Ryan was the sole striker.
|
|
Straight away Forest had a number of attacks, one of which led to
Thames giving away a corner. Paul, the manager, called for James to
take it and what a right decision that was as the ball came down
just in front of the goalie. Ryan wasjust in the right spot to head
the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 Reds and Ryan’s first ever
goal with his head. |
|
The
first half saw some outstanding football from the Reds as they must
of had 80% of the play in the Thames half. Tom was having his best
play yet in midfield, as he normally plays in defence, but he was
making some outstanding tackles. Sometimes he took on 2 players and
still managed to find the way to pass the ball to Ryan’s feet. With
Brandon and Reece in defence it was very hard for the Thames’ attack
to come anywhere near Eric in goal. The only ball that was getting
through to the Red’s goal was long shots which Eric very coolly
caught in his hands.
|
|
Jordon was in the centre of midfield and playing some good skilful
football. Brandon, the captain, kept shouting to his players when on
the attack. |
|
Half time came and the effort from the boys showed with there very
red faces. It was starting to show now what a tough game this was
becoming. Within 5 minutes of the second half Thames managed to get
a sloppy goal past the defence leaving Eric with no chance of making
a save and Thames had equalised.
|
|
5
minutes later with the parents nail biting on the side line the ball
was in the Thames box being kicked around by a number of Forest
players. The Thames goalie had pushed the ball back out to Ryan and
Tom who both struck the ball at the same time. The shot took a
deflection of a Thames’ player and went into the back of the net.
The goal was awarded to Tom and 2-1 to the Reds.
|
|
Minutes later Reece kicked the ball up pitch to Ryan who made a
super run crossing to James who smacked the ball into the net for
3-1 to the Reds. Jordon was substituted for Troy who slotted into
the midfield position and straight away there was a few headers
going on in the midfield which led to Tom winning the ball and
driving up the field to Reece. Reece then passed to Ryan, the ball
went into the air and with that Troy kicked the ball in to the net
for the Red’s fourth. |

It
was a well deserved win to Forest Glade Reds |
