Stambridge

A disappointing result for Forest who once again dominated the match but failed to make the most of their chances.

Forest started the game brightly with Sam and Joe both having good chances and putting lots of pressure on the Stambridge defence. Forest were playing quite good football until they were dealt a huge blow. A swirling free kick, assisted by the wind somehow managed to find its way into the back of the net. Forest were gutted but continued to put pressure on the Stambridge defence. But then again a hopeful punt, obviously helped by the wind, flew into the back of the net and Forest found themselves losing 2 – 0 despite playing the better football.

Alex then made a run into the box and was tripped by their defender – a clear penalty was the decision only for Alex himself to step up and see his shot from the spot saved. This wasn’t going to be Forest’s day. To make things worse, Sam, one of our biggest threats to Stambridge went off injured. Forest went in at half time 2 – 0 down and feeling slightly unlucky. Eric gave the team talk and got all of the boy’s spirits up and Forest were ready to have a go at it.

The opening minutes of the second half were of Stambridge under constant pressure. Then, Alex crossed the ball over to Smithy who controlled and shot. But the keeper fumbled and Joe was there to tap home. We were back in the game. Soon after in an identical move, Jack had a shot which was again fumbled by the keeper and Joe tapped the ball home. This time the referee blew and said the keeper had two hands on the ball - No goal. However, just as Forest were beginning to believe they could snatch a draw, even a win, another long ball caused havoc in the box and unfortunately fell to their player who smashed it into the back of the net. Forest carried on pressurising Stambridge but it just wasn’t enough.

Another disappointing result, but soon the results are going to come.
